The Palo Alto Unified School District supports and encourages the participation of parents and other community members in the decision-making processes that affect the education of the community’s children.

There are many opportunities for this participation.  The Board of Education generally meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.  At each meeting, comments are welcome on each of the items on the agenda.  At approximately 8:30 p.m. there also is an Open Forum where community members may comment on items not on the agenda.

Another excellent way to participate is through each school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) or School Site Council (SSC).  Please contact your local school to see how you might match your talents with the needs of the school.

The District is fortunate to have a very generous and supportive community here in Palo Alto.  The passage of Measure A has allowed the District to restore many of the programs and services lost in the last two years of budget cuts.  Another organization that provides support to the District is Palo Alto Partners in Education (PAPIE).  PAPIE helps our schools maintain excellence by meeting classroom needs unfunded by other means.
