August 21, 2008

Dear Parents and Students

I hope this note finds you excited about the upcoming school year!  While teachers and staff have been enjoying the break, we can’t help but think about the challenges and activities that will be here soon.  We know we have a great responsibility to make your experience in our schools the best it can be.

This summer, many people have been busy making preparations for the opening of the school year on August 26.  Facilities have been modernized and improved (check out the new stadium fields at Gunn and Paly high schools).  We have many new administrators and teachers joining our district who will add their considerable talents and experiences to our staff.  Classroom lists are being prepared, and the master schedule at our secondary schools are being devised so students will have the opportunity to take the classes they need and want.

As we move closer to the August 26, the pace of preparation quickens.  In the days right before school starts there is a sense of expectancy.  The bulletin boards are empty, anticipating student work.  The classrooms are shiny with everything exactly where it should be.  The entire school district is filled with anticipation – buses, classrooms and corridors, and ball fields and playgrounds are literally waiting to be filled by the energy and spirit of our students.

While our staff will have many years of work as educators, we know that students will have only one 2008-2009 school year.  Whether the student is in kindergarten or their senior year, we look forward to doing our part to make the upcoming year full of growth, learning, and inquiry.  On we go!

Sincerely,
Kevin
