Palo Alto – We are pleased to announce the Board took action this morning to appoint Michael O’Neill as Principal of Juana Briones Elementary School.
The Briones Principal Selection Input Committee felt that Mr. O’Neill was a good match for their school. His personal qualifications and ability to connect with children, parents, and staff were seen as just some of Mr. O’Neill’s real strengths. Although this will be Mr. O’Neill’s first principalship, incoming Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Skelly, commented, “Mr. O’Neill has needed skills and is more than ready to take on the responsibilities of the elementary principalship.”
Mr. O’Neill began his teaching career with PAUSD in 2000 at Walter Hays Elementary School where he taught fourth and fifth grades. In 2005-06, Mr. O’Neill was appointed interim Assistant Principal at Terman Middle School. His appointment was made permanent for the 2006-07 school year. In his two years at Terman, Mr. O’Neill has had the opportunity to make many connections with Briones’ families.
Mr. O’Neill earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Legal Services from the University of Massachusetts. He earned a Masters in Education, Elementary Education, from Boston University and a Masters of Arts, Education Administration, from Santa Clara University.
