Qualifications:
Education, Experience, and Training:
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Two years experience in landscaping work. Experience in leading a crew. Must attend Sheriff's Department training for WWP crew leader and maintain annual WWP crew leader certification. Must possess a valid California drivers license; maintain a driving record that assures insurability by district's carrier.
Responsibilities:
Under general direction of the Operations Supervisor, lead a crew of WWP personnel and perform landscaping duties for maintenance and beautification of district facilities. Ensure that rules, regulations and requirements of the Sheriff’s Department Weekend Work Program are followed including maintaining and supervising the required start time, break time and ending time for Weekend Work Program participants. Do related work as required.
Specific Duties Include:
- Lead a crew comprised of WWP personnel.
- Assist in training of WWP personnel on the safe operation of landscape equipment.
- Maintain district facilities landscaping
- Trim and maintain shrubs and planting areas
- Mow and edge lawn areas
- Rake and pick up leaves
- Prepare soils for planting
- Remove and control weeds
Essential Skills Include the Ability to:
- Train WWP personnel in the safe operation of all equipment
- Safely operate motorized, power, and hand tools used in landscaping maintenance
- Meet physical and mental requirements associated with the tasks of this position
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions
- Work effectively and maintain cooperative relationship with all staff, students, and public
- Lead a crew of workers
This Position Requires Thorough Knowledge of:
- Tools, materials, and equipment used in maintaining school district landscaping
- Care and adjustment tools and equipment used in school district landscaping
- Methods used in development and maintenance of landscaped areas
- Safety procedures related to landscape maintenance
- Regulation and rules concerning WWP personnel
- Crew leadership
