POSITION SUMMARY:
The Library Media Specialist collaborates with teaching staff in the development of student literacy through the administration of the library media program, provides specialized instruction to students and teaching staff, and oversees the selection, organization, utilization, and maintenance of library, information, and curriculum resources. The mission of the library media
Program is “to ensure that students are effective users of information enabling them to be lifelong learners”.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Valid California teaching and library services credential
• Successful experience as a teacher and/or library media teacher highly desirable
• Master’s Degree desirable
• Experience teaching, modeling, and coaching educational technology for both students and staff
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with staff and students

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: The typical duties of an elementary school Library Media Specialist include the
   following:
• providing instruction for students and staff in the use of print and electronic reference tools and information literacy
  processes;
• promoting literacy and enjoyment of reading;
• providing a scheduling plan that assures all students and teachers access to the Library Media Center;
• planning and teaching library and research skills as an integral part of the curriculum;
• serving as a resource for teachers in supporting their classroom curriculum efforts;
• guiding students in the selection of reading and research materials;
• promoting reading and the use of library programs as an integral part of the school, including the organizing and
  implementing of such library-related activities as author visits, book talks, and book fairs;
• encouraging and incorporating technologies appropriate to the library setting for purposes of instruction, using the library,
  and for library management;
• supervising, teaching and directing the work of volunteers and student assistants;
• organizing, managing, and maintaining the Library Media Center including:
• maintaining an organized, attractive physical appearance of the library;
• supervising the circulation process;
• managing the budgets for purchase of library books and resources; and
• managing the library collection by selective purchasing and weeding
• participating in shared-responsibilities with other elementary library media teachers; especially with regard to the book
  selection process;
• serving on school-based and district-wide committees; and
• providing a connection between district library programs and city library programs.

• ability to conceptualize, create, and operate an exemplary elementary school media center that is part of the school
  community;
• strong organizational and management skills; and
• ability to work as part of a team.
