Hospital School
Students who are hospitalized or undergoing treatment at the Lucille Packard Children's Hospital have the option of continuing their coursework through the Hospital School. The School at Children's Hospital is a unique collaboration between Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) and the Children's Hospital that provides quality education to critically and chronically ill hospitalized children.

School-age inpatients and students receiving regular outpatient services are eligible to participate in the Hospital School program. A parent or guardian's signature is required to enroll minors.

Instruction
Hospital School teachers contact students' home schools to ensure continuity of curriculum and facilitate school re-entry. Students are encouraged to continue the academic programs of their home schools. Transcripts and progress reports are provided to home schools on request.

Students are assigned to a class according to their grade level. Bedside instruction is available for those unable to come to the classroom.

History of the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital School
When children are hospitalized, one of their greatest fears is falling behind in school. Carrying on the everyday activity of going to school can have a positive effect on hospitalized children's attitude toward and acceptance of their treatment. The existence of a school program, and the expectation that school-age children will participate in it, gives children a familiar and reassuring routine in an unfamiliar setting.

The School at Children's Hospital, a unique collaboration between the Palo Alto School District and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, has been in existence since 1924. Over the years, much has changed in both fields. But providing a quality education to critically and chronically ill hospitalized children continues to be our priority.
