Charge: The Dyslexia Screener Pilot Advisory Committee is responsible for reviewing three proposed screeners from the state-approved list, providing guidance on pilot implementation plans, and making a final recommendation.

  • One (1) or more K-2  classroom teachers
  • Three (3) Community members
  • One (1) Elementary School Administrator
  • One (1) Spanish Immersion Representative
  • One (1) Mandarin Immersion Representative
  • One (1) Multilingual Learner Specialist 
  • One (1) Psychologist
  • One (1) Educational Specialist

Considerations:

  • Ensure the screener aligns with the California Dyslexia Guidelines and complies with state laws, using only state-approved screening tools.
  • Review PAUSD’s historical background and student demographics to inform the selection process.
  • Verify that the screener is age-appropriate and effectively assesses key early literacy milestones, including letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and decoding skills.
  • Evaluate the practicality of the screener, considering factors such as administration time, scoring efficiency, and ease of interpreting results.
