Early Childhood Programs
Charge: The Early Childhood Education Ad Hoc Committee is tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of Palo Alto Unified School District’s early childhood programs, including Transitional Kindergarten (TK), Kindergarten, Young Fives, Springboard, Special Education Preschool, and PreSchool Family under our adult school program. The committee will assess the effectiveness of these programs, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide recommendations to ensure these offerings align with current best practices and the needs of today’s students and families.
Deadline: Friday, April 28, 2025
Lead: Yolanda Conaway
Considerations:
- The historical context and purpose of each program.
- Enrollment trends and how the various programs impact the number of students served.
- The benefits of centralized versus distributed program locations (e.g., hosting two classes per site).
- The balance between specialized programs for specific student populations and broader access to early childhood education.
- Best practices in early childhood education and evolving standards at the state and national levels.
- The long-term sustainability of program resources, staffing, and facilities.
