PAUSD Announces the Launch of Middle College High School

Palo Alto, CA—Palo Alto Unified School District is excited to announce the opening of Middle College High School. This innovative high school for students grades 10-12 is located on the Foothill College campus. Set to open in Fall 2024, Middle College High School aims to redefine the high school experience by offering a unique blend of high school and college-level courses.

This groundbreaking initiative will allow students to fulfill their high school graduation requirements while exploring a wide range of college electives at one of the best community colleges in the country. The Middle College High School experience is designed to foster academic excellence and personal growth, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed for success in higher education and beyond.

Middle College High School is designed to address the following types of student needs:

•  Intellectual Curiosity: Genuine and deep curiosity for knowledge beyond the standard curriculum that explores topics that intrigue them and have the capacity to take ownership of their learning journey.
   
• Alternative Learning Environments: Alternatives to conventional learning settings to meet unique learning needs, with college courses offering in-person, virtual, online, hybrid, and flexible options—both synchronous and asynchronous.
   
• Effective Collaboration: Opportunities to collaborate with peers in small groups when encouraged and supported.
   
• Strong Academic Focus: Strong academics with the potential for high achievement in a college setting.
