Backstage with the Superintendent Webinar Series Update 5/28/2020

From the Office of the Superintendent:

Good afternoon to our PAUSD staff, students, and families,

We are starting to make progress in topics related to reopening schools for the 2020-21 school year. Some of the preliminary thoughts will be shared at our May 12 Board Meeting. We will also discuss in detail some of the budget implications for PAUSD resulting from the COVID-19 shutdown of our economy. We are working on large-scale input opportunities in the very near future.

We have enjoyed sharing relevant stories during our "Backstage with the Superintendent" series each Monday. To access the webinar on Monday, May 11, please go to the following link:

The webinar will include:

  • Amanda Collins, librarian at Greene Middle School and founder and director of Access Books Bay Area. Access Books is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting equity.
  • Sheryl Humble, Nixon Instructional Aide and Substitute teacher. Much of her time is devoted to working with students from East Palo Alto enrolled through the VTP and it is her passion to do more to support under-served children and their families. This is the foundation for her inspiration for founding Reaching and Inspiring Success through Education, (RISE), a nonprofit organization that works closely with families and educators in East Palo Alto to focus on success.
  • Lauren Williams, who recently partnered with RISE to support PAUSD students and families. Lauren is a parent of 2 PAUSD students. She is also a longtime Addison PTA Board Member and current president. As if she didn't have enough to do, Lauren dedicates some of her time as a board member of the Palo Alto Community Fund. Lauren will share some information about the RISE Partnership and share some insights about her work with the Palo Alto Community Fund.
  • Adriana Flores, who has a long history of partnering for equity-focused work. To quote a previous colleague, "Adrianna is committed to ensuring all students have the opportunity of a post-secondary education. She is passionate in creating partnerships and opportunities that will provide additional resources for minority students."
