Leadership Transition - Dr. Lopez

The Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Guillermo Lopez on his upcoming appointment as Superintendent of the Azusa Unified School District (AUSD), pending formal Board approval at the June 16, 2026, Board of Education meeting.

Dr. Lopez has made invaluable contributions to the PAUSD community throughout his time with us. His dedication to students, families, and staff has left a lasting and positive impact on our schools, and his commitment to equity and educational excellence has strengthened our district. PAUSD is deeply grateful for his service and the meaningful relationships he has built across our community.

Dr. Lopez will remain in his current role at PAUSD through June 30, 2026, ensuring a thoughtful and seamless transition. We are committed to supporting him as he prepares to take on this exciting new chapter in his career.

On behalf of the entire PAUSD Board of Education, staff, students, and families, we wish Dr. Lopez and his family all the best as he begins this new journey. The AUSD community is fortunate to have him, and we look forward to watching the incredible work ahead.

🏳️‍🌈 Celebrating Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈

June 1st marked the kickoff of Pride Month, a beautiful time of year to celebrate our LGBTQ+ community and honor the incredible history, resilience, and joy that define it. Pride month reminds us that our entire school community is stronger when every student, staff member, and family feels safe, valued, and able to show up as their authentic selves.

Inclusion is an ongoing commitment for PAUSD. In May, we had a fantastic staff turnout for a  Trans 101 workshop hosted by the San Mateo County Pride Center. We look forward to continuing this important work and are planning a series of workshops for both staff and families for the upcoming school year.

Below, you will find resources and local Pride events happening in our area. Whether you are celebrating your own identity or showing up as an ally, thank you for helping us lead with kindness and inclusion every day.

Ways to engage this month:

  • Read and Listen: Take time to explore queer stories and history. A wonderful place to start is the graphic novel  Gender Queer or the newer release Opting Out by local author Maia Kobabe.

  • Support Local: Uplift LGBTQ+ owned businesses and community organizations in our neighborhoods.

  • Show Visible Support: Remember, small gestures matter. Displaying a Pride flag or placing a supportive sticker in a window speaks volumes to those who need to see it most.

Thank you for being part of a supportive and welcoming place for our students and community. Enjoy the month, learn something new, and let’s celebrate the brilliance of our LGBTQ+ community!

Mental Health and Wellness Support During the Break

As we approach summer break, we want to remind families of mental health services and resources available when school is closed. PAUSD’s new partnership with Uwill provides virtual therapy and mental health support for all students during every school break and on weekends.

We wish your family a safe, restful break and encourage you to access these resources if you need support.

Virtual Mental Health Support: Uwill

Uwill is a PAUSD partner offering virtual mental health and wellness support for all students.

  • Free for all PAUSD students (parental consent required for students under 12)

  • Accessible through students’ Classlink dashboard

  • All licensed therapists as well as access to wellness tools (yoga, meditation, mindfulness)

  • Students can register online, choose a therapist, schedule sessions, and access on-demand wellness programming
