CALIFORNIA DISTINGUISHED SCHOOLS 

The 2023 California Distinguished Schools program, a prestigious statewide honor, is saluting Juana Briones Elementary, El Carmelo Elementary, Nixon Elementary, Ohlone Elementary, and Palo Verde Elementary. These schools are recognized for their ongoing delivery of education excellence through quality dedication and continuous improvement toward student advancement. 

The program focuses on one of two categories: closing the achievement gap or achieving exceptional performance. These five PAUSD honorees will boast this honor for two years. 

2023 SODEXO FUTURE CHEFS CHALLENGE 

The national initiative, now in its twelfth year, was created to motivate elementary students to think about making healthy food choices, while also encouraging them to be active and creative in the kitchen. 

Students will submit healthy recipes inspired by their favorite lunch meals. One student from each elementary site will be selected to participate in the 2023 Districtwide finals event. Principals will be sharing information in school newsletters. Information can also be found on the Food Services page of the District website.
