Superintendent's Update - June 4, 2021
From the Office of the Superintendent:
The agenda is tentative until final posting. There are two meetings remaining in the month of June. The agenda calendar can be found HERE.
Thank you to everyone who put time, energy, and care into final school activities. Promotion and graduation ceremonies were beautiful and were our first large-scale events in over a year. We are thankful for the opportunity to celebrate our students in-person.
PLANS TO START 2021-22
Our collective administrative team is getting together on June 10 to put final touches on reopening plans for the fall and to prioritize efforts. All information points to a full in-person return, although the final rules will not be known for a couple of weeks. We attend weekly meetings with the Santa Clara County Public Health Department and will provide updates as they become available. For now, I would suggest preparing for a start that looks more like 2019 than this year. We are nearly done hiring for the upcoming year and feel like we have almost everything in place to get us started.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 2021-22
We are lucky to work in a community like Palo Alto. Our local support allows for exceptional working conditions and high-level training. Our professional development budget, combined with specific training for Orton-Gillingham, exceeds $2 million. The investment in our staff will pay dividends to our students.
FOOD SERVICES - SUMMER DRIVE-THROUGH MEAL SERVICE PROGRAM
To support our community, the Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) Food and Nutrition Services program will continue to provide the ability for parents to pick-up meals for the children in their family 18 years of age or under at JLS Middle School.
To minimize the spread of COVID-19, please continue to stay in your car and meals will be placed in your trunk based on the number of children you request. If you use alternative transportation (bicycle/walk-up), please continue to maintain appropriate social distancing.
The JLS Middle School / PAUSD Bike / Walk-up / Drive-through meal service will be closed Friday, June 4, through Friday, June 11. We will reopen and resume services for the summer on Monday, June 14. The Summer Session Bike/Walk-up/Drive-through Meal Pick-up Hours of Service are Monday-Friday from 11:00 a.m.-12:15 p.m.
PAUSD/SAFE ROUTES SUMMER BIKE RODEO
Current 3rd grade parents: If you have summer availability, please sign up for one of the three 3rd Grade Bike Rodeo Summer events and help your child learn how to share the road and bike safely. Many consider this event to be one of the highlights of 3rd grade. The event is free, but a completed registration form is required.
