Instructional Aide, General Education
Salary range: 21
Reports to: Assigned Administrator
Under general direction, assist in preparing educational materials; may tutor or assist with instruction of individual students or groups of students under guidelines and supervision provided by Classroom Teacher.
- A.A. degree or equivalent required; courses in Psychology, Child Growth and Development or a closely related field preferred
- Satisfactory work history
- Successful experience demonstrating tact, courtesy, positive attitude and maintaining cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
- Assist the Classroom Teacher in planning course of study and specific lesson plans
- May tutor individual students or groups of students under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher
- Supervise individual students or small groups of students in practice activities such as math and spelling drills
- Supervise students at assemblies and programs or during trips
- Auditory and visual monitoring of students both inside the classroom and during outside activities
- Assist students in reviewing homework assignments and test results
- Prepare instructional and visual aids including posters, charts and stencils
- Arrange for and operate audiovisual equipment
- Order textbooks and supplies and maintain an inventory of essential items
- May attend meetings relating to curriculum content or student-related problems
- Instruct and plan learning activities under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher
- Express oneself clearly, orally and in writing
- Supervise large groups of students
- Other duties as assigned
- With appropriate training, may be required to provide First Aid/CPR.
- Deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring tact, judgment and poise.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Thorough knowledge of instructional materials used at grade level, curriculum content, and objectives;
- Ability to assume a high level of responsibility and independent activity;
- Operation of copy equipment, computers, and audio-visual equipment
- Application of curriculum content as it applies to individual differences in the classroom;
- Methods and attitudes required to motivate and encourage student and parental participation in the total educational process.
