Palo Alto Unified School District has merged the Health Council and the Safe and Welcoming Schools Committee establishing the Student Wellness Council. Last year, both the Health Council and the Safe and Welcoming Schools Committees voted collectively to combine their efforts and form this new endeavor. Much of the push toward the merger was centered around the common purpose and goals of the previous council and committee.
The District Wellness Council is made up of a group of individuals, representing both the school and the community, who act collectively to provide support on aspects of school wellness services, to promote the link between health, safety and academics, and to assist schools as needed in the area of student and staff (physical, social, emotional) health. Furthermore, the council promotes practices in school settings in which students, staff, parents and the community work collaboratively to ensure that each student and staff is emotionally and physically healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged. The District Wellness Council meets once a month, typically, on Wednesdays from 4-5:30 p.m. at the district office.
We invite staff, parents, students and community members to participate in this council.
