School Placement & Transfers
School assignment is based on the location of the family residence within a school boundary, and that school is called the neighborhood school.
Neighborhood elementary schools are grouped into clusters that feed into middle schools and high schools. If there is no space at the neighborhood school, the student will be overflowed to a school within the same cluster; the student will be placed on the neighborhood school's waitlist and will be re-enrolled at the neighborhood school when a space becomes available.
Parents of overflowed students should work with the after-school-care provider near the school (run by private companies, not PAUSD) to be placed on their waitlist, in anticipation of a possible school reassignment.
