Dear Palo Alto Unified Community,
Heavy smoke from the Camp Fire in Butte County is causing unhealthy air quality throughout the Bay Area, including here in Palo Alto. Before school started, we noticed the air quality was indicated as “Unhealthy” (red). School sites were notified to move recess, lunch, and exercise indoors. Health Services is continuing to monitor local conditions and follow recommendations from the County Health Department and update families and schools on the impact to school and activities. Current air quality conditions can be viewed at www.airnow.gov.
The wellness and safety of our students is of the utmost priority to us and we want to make sure that students, especially students with health conditions, are indoors and not exposed to the smoke unnecessarily. Students with inhalers should keep them on hand at all times. Students are also permitted to wear masks throughout the day.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to educate our students in safe learning environments. Please contact your school or the District Nursing Staff with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. For questions regarding school sports, activities or field trips, please contact your school directly.
The Paly football game scheduled for tonight, 11/9/2018 has been postponed, more information will be posted on paly.net when available.
