Student musicians around the district are preparing to share their music with parents, grandparents, and peers in a variety of choir, band and orchestra concerts over the next three weeks. Some of the highlights: The Gunn Bands will perform pieces written for wind band and electronics. Also featured are two newly commissioned works by Bay Area composers. The Gunn Orchestras will perform a variety of seasonal works including Leroy Anderson’s “The Typewriter” with Gunn Theatre teacher serving as a soloist. On Friday, December 7, a collaboration between Paly and Gunn Jazz Bands features guest artist, from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Directory of Jazz Studies David Fague on Saxophone.
During the week of December 17, all elementary schools will be treated to “Informances” in each of the beginning string and band classes. Parents and Grandparents will sit alongside students as they demonstrate what they have learned and teach their parents how to play their instrument.
