School District Appoints Shifts Due to Additional Needs, Budget-Balancing Results, and Current Vacancies

Five leadership positions have been filled within Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD) through transfers within the organization due to the district’s growing needs, results of addressing a budget shortfall, and vacancies created due to the departure of staff at the end of the 2016-17 school year. PAUSD Superintendent Dr. Glenn “Max” McGee has announced that Ms. Magdalena Fittoria will become an assistant principal at Jordan Middle School, Mr. Dave Hoshiwara will step into the role of Principal of the Adult School and Secondary Options program, Ms. Miriam Stevenson will lead the Department of Student Services, Ms. Katya Villalobos will support the Palo Alto High School administrative team as an Administrator on Special Assignment, and Ms. Komey Vishakan will lead a new role as the Manager of Policy and Legal Compliance in the Superintendent’s Office.

Prior to joining PAUSD, Ms. Fittoria served the Ravenswood City School District (1989-1996) in several leadership roles including the director of the even start family program, the manager of bilingual education, and a project development specialist and assistant to the superintendent as well as Stanford University (1986-1989) as the director of Stanford upward bound and the coordinator of school support programs, both within the university’s Haas Center for Public Service.

Ms. Fittoria transitions to join the leadership team at Jordan Middle School as the position of Administrator on Special Assignment at the District Office was eliminated during the school district’s budget-balancing process.

Ms. Vishakan moves into a new role created by PAUSD to support the school district with ensuring that PAUSD is in full compliance of the Resolution Agreements between the school district and the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
