Dear PAUSD Community,

Stanford University has submitted the largest General Use Permit (GUP) request for additional building in the history of Santa Clara County. As part of the 2,000,000 square feet of proposed building, Stanford is requesting permission to build additional tax-exempt housing for faculty. As a Community Funded school district, formerly called “Basic Aid”, our school district is almost completely dependent upon local taxes. Adding tax-exempt students immediately lowers per-pupil funding, adding a strain on our budget and services.

Mitigating the proposed Stanford University GUP is one of the top priorities of our school district and community. The website and briefing book linked below provide detailed information about some of our major concerns with the proposed GUP and potential devastating financial implications. Our Board of Education unanimously stated our priorities regarding the GUP as:

  1. Securing ongoing funding for additional students in tax-exempt Stanford housing
  2. Obtaining a parcel of land large enough for a neighborhood elementary school
  3. Receiving one-time funding as a contribution to the construction of an additional school

Thank you for taking the time to review the website and the accompanying GUP briefing book. Please join us in our effort to mitigate concerns created through the development wing of Stanford University.
