Dear Palo Alto Unified School District Community-
Early this afternoon staff was alerted by the Palo Alto Police Department (PAPD) of a threat directed at Palo Alto High School. Staff immediately invoked lockdown procedures for the entire campus and district offices at the direction of the PAPD.
The PAPD was on site in a matter of minutes and worked quickly and diligently with the administrative team to investigate the threat and verify the safety of students and staff. Approximately one hour after the threat was made, the Palo Alto High campus was deemed clear by the PAPD and the lockdown was removed so the remainder of the school day could continue. Police officers remained on campus for the remainder of the school day to reassure students and staff and continue to ensure everyone's safety. Detectives will continue to investigate the threat and attempt to identify the person responsible.
PAUSD school and district emergency messaging systems pull information directly from the Infinite Campus system. Our Annual Data Update process opened this week, which is the opportunity for families to ensure contact and household information is up to date and accurate. If you haven't done so already, please make time to complete this process in the near future.
Many thanks to our colleagues at the PAPD for their continued support of our schools and the safety of our community. I know that school safety is a priority for each of you as well, and we are grateful for the shared commitment.
Karen Hendricks, Interim Superintendent
