Administrator Hiring Process

  1. Complete an online application for the desired position
  2. Include the following documents as attachments to your application:
    • Letter of interest (addressed to Assistant Superintendent of HR)
    • Current resumé
    • Letters of recommendation (including at least one letter pertaining to your most recent work experience)
    • Copies of up-to-date transcripts for all graduate and undergraduate work (unofficial are acceptable)
    • Copies of your credentials/certificates
  3. Be selected for an interview. A committee screens completed applications and selects candidates to interview for particular positions. The committee considers PAUSD's affirmative action policy and the following criteria:
    • Education, credentials, and training
    • Experience
    • Professional references
    • Ability to write effectively
  4. A committee will interview each selected candidate to assess his/her ability, interest, and readiness to fill the position
  5. Finalists will be notified, and we will conduct a complete professional reference check
  6. The Superintendent will interview finalists and recommend a candidate to the Board of Education

Certificated Hiring Process

  1. Complete an online application for the desired position

  3. Link your online application to an open vacancy or pool. This ensures that your completed application materials can be seen by screening committees. You can continue to edit (or upload documents to) your online application even after hitting save or apply.
  4. Principals and department chairs (as part of the screening committee) screen completed application packets and select candidates to interview for particular positions; they notify Human Resources of selected candidates. (Once all rounds of interviews have been conducted, HR will notify all applicants not selected for interview.)
  5. Candidates are contacted by Human Resources and interviewed by PAUSD principals and supervisors
  6. Candidates are requested to teach a demonstration lesson for a PAUSD team. We prefer to observe you teaching in your own classroom. If you are not currently teaching, you may teach a demonstration lesson in one of our schools. If distance makes this impossible, we will accept videotaped lessons
  7. We will conduct a complete professional reference check
  8. Human Resources will contact you with a conditional employment offer to discuss salary, placement, benefits, and general employment terms
  9. PAUSD Board of Education approves all teacher hires

Classified Hiring Process

  1. Complete and submit an application [PDF] to Classified Human Resources before the final filing date. If you have a resumé and letter of recommendation, please submit them along with your application form
  2. Your application will be screened by the Human Resource Center and the position supervisor. Selected applicants will be tested.
  3. The position supervisor recommends candidates for interview after reviewing applicants' test results. If you are selected, you will be contacted by telephone.
  4. A full reference check will be performed (usually within two days of your interview) and an offer of employment will be made to the selected candidate.

Substitute Teachers

  1. Complete the Substitute Teacher Application [PDF]
  2. Submit your application to lprior@pausd.org and include the following documents as attachments:
    • Current resumé
    • Minimum of two (2) letters of recommendation
    • Copies of up-to-date transcripts for all graduate and undergraduate work (unofficial are acceptable)
    • Copy of valid California Credentials or Substitute Teaching Permit (registered with Santa Clara County Office of Education)
  3. PAUSD Substitute pay is $165.00 per day
