Elementary School
In kindergarten, students begin developing an understanding of themselves, together with an appreciation for their cultural backgrounds and their families. In first and second grade, they extend their understanding to the neighborhood and community. In third grade, students learn about Palo Alto and the local area. In fourth grade, they study California and in fifth grade, they learn about the history of the United States. Throughout the program, students learn about citizenship and how to be responsible members of the community. They also learn to balance multiple perspectives and to acknowledge the contributions of people from many different cultures.
