Safe & Responsible Tech Use

Promoting online safety and responsible digital citizenship is a shared responsibility between the school and home. Learn more about technology policies, internet filtering, parent controls, online trends, and resources for families.

Student Use of Technology Policy

Please review Administrative Regulation 6163.4 on the PAUSD website for more information on policies and expectations for using district technology resources. At the discretion of school sites and/or teachers, families may be asked to sign one of the “student friendly” versions below.

District Filtering

PAUSD implements content filtering on district networks and devices to comply with CIPA (Children's Internet Protection Act) and to ensure a safe learning environment. This filtering is active both at school and when district managed devices are used off-campus. Although filtering technology continues to evolve and improve, it is not a fail proof solution. Open dialogue with your children about their online activity and age-appropriate supervision is always recommended. Parent Controls

While district filtering is in place on district issued devices, parents may wish to implement additional parent controls on home networks for district issued and/or personal student devices during non-school hours.

Qustodio Linewize Parent accounts: PAUSD partners with Linewize for internet filtering. All PAUSD families are eligible for a free Qustodio account which enables you to set additional parent controls on your child’s district managed device plus one personal device. Please note that this does not allow you to override district controls. Set up your free parent account. You will need to enter your email address associated with your PAUSD enrollment.
Personal Device and Internet Settings: Check device manufacturers or your home internet provider for steps to set up additional parental controls.

Guiding Online Learning

Elementary and middle school teachers have optional access to either GoGuardian Teacher (grades 6-8) or Classwize (grades TK-5). These tools enable teachers to guide and monitor online activity and keep students focussed during class time. These tools do not allow override district level filters, however, they do enable teachers the ability to further limit, guide, or re-direct student access to online resources during class time. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or school site if you have questions.

Common Sense Media is a valuable resource for reviews of apps, games, movies, and TV shows, along with family tips on digital safety. Below are a few noteworthy resources on their site:

Family Tech Planners: Use these tech planners to help your kids think through important questions around tech use: What will I do? How much time will I spend? Am I making thoughtful choices?
