Expanded Learning Opportunities

Palo Alto Unified School District is pleased to announce expanded learning opportunities (ELOP) to all eligible TK - 5th grade students starting in the 2022 – 2023 school year.

Currently, the Expanded Learning Opportunity Program in PAUSD is provided through a partnership with Right at School, Palo Alto Community Child Care and Kids Choice. Academic support, enrichment, and connections for students beyond the regular school day are the primary goals of the Expanded Learning Opportunities Programs in PAUSD. “Expanded learning” means learning programs that focus on developing the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs and interests of pupils through hands-on, engaging learning experiences. Expanded Learning Opportunities Program will be offered at all PAUSD elementary schools for grades K-5 and at Duveneck, Walter Hays, El Carmelo, Palo Verde and Barron Park Elementary Schools for TK students. Kids Choice serves students at Nixon Elementary School only.

The program runs 5 days a week from 2:25pm to 6:00pm and can meet both the childcare and enrichment program needs for PAUSD families.

Priority Designation for Free or Reduced Cost Programming

All students are eligible to participate in the program, regardless of demographics or income status. Some will attend under the regular programming option at full price and qualifying students who fall in priority groups I and II will have the opportunity to participate at no cost.

Priority 1: Students who qualify for free and reduced-price meals

Priority 2: English learners, foster and homeless youth

To be eligible for free childcare/enrichment under Priority 1, students must complete the application for Free and Reduced Price School meals.
